This is about the heroes among us: The nurses and doctors, technicians and therapists, PAs and EMTs at the front lines of a health care crisis where all hell's breaking loose and lives are being saved, and lost. They're relentless and exhausted, determined and overwhelmed — returning day after grueling day to do all that can be done. We will never be able to thank them enough.
But it's also about the less visible ones: the ones who drive trucks, deliver packages, clean shared spaces and run cash registers — the legions of workers who put themselves at risk every day to support and sustain us all. They do it without thanks or fanfare, and far too often for too little pay. They drive the social engine of our economy, and they leave the safety and security of their own homes every morning so the rest of us don't have to.
These are the essential workers, and nothing works without them.
